This Privacy Policy describes how Elbo Software, LLC (“Elbo,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you use the Elbo Books website, submit personalization content, or purchase a personalized activity book (the “Services”).
By using the Services, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information in three main ways: information you provide, information collected automatically, and information from our service providers.
A. Information You Provide Directly
You may provide:
Contact information (name, email, billing/shipping address)
Order information (products purchased, order history)
Personalization information (child’s age, interests, difficulty level)
Photos to create illustrated characters
Optional text content (inscriptions, messages)
Customer support communications
We do not store your full payment card information. Payments are processed by Shopify and its payment providers.
B. Information Collected Automatically
When you visit our site, we may automatically collect:
IP address
Browser and device information
Interaction data (pages viewed, time on site, clicks)
Cookies and similar technologies (see Section 9)
C. Information from Service Providers
Some information flows through or is processed by:
Shopify (checkout, payments, order management, Shopify customer accounts)
Tally (personalization form submissions, including photos)
Notion (internal text-only order management)
Print-on-demand partner (final print-ready files + shipping details)
Shipping carriers
Email and support tools
These providers may process data under their own privacy policies and our instructions.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
Create, produce, and deliver your personalized book
Operate and improve the Services
Process and fulfill orders
Provide customer support
Ensure submitted content is safe, appropriate, and compliant with our Terms
Send you transactional emails and, if you opt in, occasional marketing communications
We do not sell personal information or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
3. AI-Assisted Processing
We use a combination of AI-assisted tools, custom Elbo software, and human review to create your book.
AI-assisted tools may transform uploaded photos into cartoon-style character illustrations.
AI-assisted tools may help generate activity content.
Every printed page is reviewed by a human.
All AI processing occurs solely to create and support your book.
We do not use your photos or your child’s identifiable information to train public AI models or for unrelated projects.
We do not use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.
4. Children’s Privacy
Elbo Books is intended to be used by adults. Only adults (18+) may place orders and submit personalization information.
We collect information about children from their parents/guardians—not directly from children.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13.
If you believe a child submitted information directly, contact us at support@elbobooks.com and we will delete it.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
A. Photos and Personalization Content
We retain photos and related personalization inputs only as long as needed:
Completed orders: delete photos within ~30 days after completion
Abandoned personalization: delete photos within ~30–60 days of inactivity
Timelines are approximate and may vary operationally.
B. Orders, Transactions, and Communications (Non-Photo Data)
We retain order, transaction, and accounting data as required for legal and business purposes—typically up to 7 years.
You may request deletion of certain data (where we are not required to retain it) by contacting support@elbobooks.com.
6. Marketing and Your Choices
We send:
Transactional emails (order confirmations, shipping updates, support messages)
Optional marketing emails (you can unsubscribe anytime)
To opt out of marketing emails, use the “unsubscribe” link or contact us at support@elbobooks.com.
We do not sell or share your personal information for third-party marketing.
7. How We Share Information
We share information only as needed to provide the Services:
Shopify (storefront, checkout, payments, order management)
Tally (temporary photo + form storage)
Notion (internal text-only order management)
Print-on-demand partner (shipping details + final print-ready book files; no original photos)
Shipping carriers
Email and support providers
Legal/safety disclosures as required
Business transfers (e.g., mergers or acquisitions)
Shopify may also process certain information independently of us to provide and improve its own services across merchants. Users can review Shopify’s own privacy materials to understand their rights related to Shopify’s processing.
We do not sell personal information.
8. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
Access the personal information we maintain
Request correction of inaccurate information
Request deletion of certain information
Request a portable copy of information
Restrict or object to certain uses of information
Residents of some U.S. states (including California, Virginia, Colorado, and others) may have additional privacy rights under their local laws. You can exercise any applicable rights by contacting support@elbobooks.com.
We aim to respond to privacy-related requests within 30 days, or within any period required by applicable law. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling requests.
If you believe we have not handled your privacy concerns appropriately, you may have the right to lodge a complaint with a regulator in your place of residence. We encourage you to contact us first so we can try to resolve your concerns.
We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising their privacy rights.
9. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to:
Enable essential site functionality
Remember your personalization progress
Understand aggregate traffic and usage patterns
Improve site performance
We use analytics tools—such as Google Analytics—only for aggregated analytics, not for advertising or cross-site behavioral tracking. Analytics tools may collect information about your device, IP address, browser, interactions with our site, and similar data.
You can control or disable cookies in your browser settings.
You can also use Google’s opt-out tools (e.g., the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On).
At this time, we do not respond to browser “Do Not Track” (DNT) signals.

We take reasonable measures to protect personal information, including:
Limiting access to authorized personnel and service providers bound by confidentiality obligations

Using reputable vendors with their own security safeguards

Our primary service providers are based in the United States.

When we do, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice.
